Description: The design for the Hebrew Academy compound relies on symbolic, urban, functional and climatic aspects. Symbolically, the design stems from an understanding of the essence of Hebrew as an ancient national language that was revived in its historic homeland. Hence, the Hebrew language is an integral part of the local and sceneray and it serves as a connecting link between the past and the present, and from the present to the future. The proposed design uses the language of the agricultural terraces, which are a man-made landscape item and a centuries-old cultivation method that is an integral part of the local landscape. In doing so, the design refers to the symbolic dimension of the structure as representing the history of the Hebrew language and its connection to local context. The use of the language of stone terraces to create a contemporary and innovative structure symbolises the revival of the Hebrew language and its transformation into a modern language. The structure on the one hand descends and merges with the ground and on the other hand grows from the ground as emerging volumes. The various aspects on which the proposed compound relies work together, producing an innovative, representative and practical design that begins with the conceptual scheme and continues throughout all detailing levels. The Hebrew Academy Compound is thus a space that represents the Hebrew language and its historical role while encouraging its learning and understanding of its importance today and in the future
