Description: A residential neighbourhood consisting of around 2500 dwelling units, schools, kindergartens, community centres, religious facilities, and commerce. Located in Beit Hanina, East Jerusalem, it is the largest planned residential project for the Palestinian residents of Jerusalem. The project was initiated by a group of property owners, organized by the Beit Hanina community centre. It represents the community's needs and desires and takes into account the connection to Jerusalem while promoting a livable and sustainable everyday life. The site has very challenging conditions, with steep topography, varied ownership, troublesome proximity to the Atarot industrial area, and the contested and biased nature of the planning processes within the city of Jerusalem. In the planning process, we had to adjust to these limitations while emphasizing the need to develop a proper residential environment for the community, which is based on walkability, diversity, safety and mixed uses.
